Code-compliance review of drawings and calculations
The agent checks drawing sets, BIM models and calculation sheets against applicable fire, egress and structural code clauses and flags each issue with its source.
A senior engineer or plan checker reads drawing sheets and calculation packages against the relevant codes, marking up PDFs by hand. Travel distances, exit widths, fire ratings and load combinations are checked one at a time. Each review takes days, depends on the reviewer's memory of clause numbers, and often happens late. Issues found at permit stage trigger redesign and resubmission.
Systems used- Reads the IFC model, sheet set and calculation package and extracts rooms, occupancies, exits, fire separations, members and load cases
- Maps each element to the code clauses that apply in the project jurisdiction and the firm's design basis
- Runs deterministic rule checks for measurable items such as travel distance, exit capacity and load combinations
- Flags items that need judgment, citing the clause, sheet and model element for each one
- Produces a marked-up issue list in the BCF format the design team already uses
- Issues found before submission
- Review cycle time
- Resubmission rate
- False-flag rate
